![]() My bow is 52lbs at 29" I was shooting a 35-55 goldtip that was about 570gr and a grizzly head. My spike happens to be the biggest entered in the contest! It was my second buck and 6th deer with my recurve. I put her on it and off she want down through the woods, 80yards later she had me too my deer! Last resort was to get my dog, that was in training to be a tracker and see what she could do. We get back out and could not find ANY blood, just roughed up leaves. ![]() Gave it a little bit and went back to the house and waited an hour or so. I nocked another arrow and that one found its mark! The deer straightend out got to his feet and crashed through the woods. My arrow hit something and angled up instead of down, catching the spine. Although his antlers were smaller than most 2 -year-old bucks his behavior was quite typical of bucks this age. He grew into an eight-pointer that appeared to score around 85 Boone and Crockett. The shot was good I thought but the deer's backend just dropped. When this buck turned two his antlers were a far cry from what they would be at age six. It all happens just like that! He came up feeding 15 yards away, turned slightly away, I drew and let her fly. However, a good buck that has the potential of having a big rack should be past the phase of spike within a year or two. Yet, there are still signs of bad genetics in some cases. I got to my stand about 4:00 and sat till about 30min before dark when I heard him coming. Jake is a big help.He shot a small BB thinking is was a doe in the afternoon after he returned to the farm from taking SAT's in the morning. I walked down to him but 1st saw the blood trail and holy splatters I blew out the top of the heart with a pass though. I could not get him to stop so as he passed a big popular I picked my spot on the shoulder I fired and he piled up 35 yards. Noise down and I had to turn and thinking he is pre-occupied I was able too get set. I get in hit the bleat about 7 times and then a real raspy grunt call and as I was watching the hard woods to my right and field edge I hear quick moving movement and turn to the left and he he comes. Early morning doe's and turkeys entered and left then about 11:30 I hear a buck grunting but I could not coax him into the field with the bleat or gunt or antlers, I waited another half hr after I didn't hear him any longer and then made a quick move to a stand I set up 3 years ago across the field just inside the woods about 130 yards away on the high ground. I hunted my stand on the edge of the field. I put a nice 9 point down yesterday in Va.
